COVID-19 Cancellations and Changes
One of the most effective ways to avoid catching COVID-19 from the novel coronavirus is to thoroughly and frequently wash your hands and avoid touching your face with unwashed hands, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says.

COVID-19 CANCELLATIONS/CHANGES

• Charles City public buildings including City Hall and Floyd County public buildings including the courthouse are closed to the public except for very limited exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

• Floyd County Medical Center is allowing no visitors at this time in the hospital, clinic, outpatient areas, and emergency department. Some exceptions will be made for situations for special patient care needs on a case-by-case basis, including pediatric patients, Birth Center patients and patients receiving end-of-life care. For approved exceptions, only one visitor per patient will be allowed, and they must be age 18 or older; immediate family members, powers of attorney, guardians or patient representatives; healthy with no symptoms of illness including respiratory or fever; and the same visitor for the duration of the patient’s stay

• Charles City Public Library will be closed until further notice. All programs are canceled until further notice. All Zastrow room use is suspended until May 1. All fees and deposits will be refunded. All due dates for materials have been extended — if you have library materials please keep them until the library is able to re-open.

• Floyd County Museum and Historical Society is temporarily closing. Staff are continuing to work and take phone orders for manuals, build cards and research. The museum is also postponing the retirement and introductory party that had been scheduled for Saturday, March 28. The tentative new date is 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 2.

• Peer Recovery Zone in Charles City is closed for four weeks. Plugged-In Iowa continues to offer phone support and video communication support, call (641) 275-8704.

• Messiah’s Food Pantry in Charles City will be closed through April 15.

• Charles City Senior Center is closed and not offering congregate meals until at least the week of April 13.

• PK-12 schools have canceled classes and activities until April 13.

• Foster Grandparents will have no activities for a month while schools are shut down.

• Charles City YMCA is closed. Memberships will be credited, added or refunded where appropriate.

• Charles Theatre in Charles City is closed.

• Charles City Lions Club has suspended its weekly Friday meetings until further notice.

• Charles City Rotary Club has suspended its weekly Monday meetings and its satellite club meetings until Monday, April 20.

• Archdiocese of Dubuque, which includes all area Catholic churches, has canceled all public Masses until further notice. All Catholics are dispensed from the obligation to attend weekly Mass. Funerals, wedding and baptisms may be held, but should be limited to immediate family. A livestream Mass by Bishop Michael Jackels will be available every Sunday at 9 a.m.

• First Congregational Church in Charles City has canceled all activities including services, lunches and Bible study for at least two weeks.

• Messiah Lutheran Church has canceled all activities until further notice.

• North Iowa Area Community College announced that, in addition to making most regular classes online until further notice, the following classes are canceled: Tech Brew, March 24; North Iowa Job and Career Fair, April 2; Pathways to Success, April 10; Blood Drive, April 17; IT Summit, April 20.

• ISU Extension and Outreach events and classes are canceled through at least April 4. Extension offices will remain open.

• Iowa property tax fines and lates fees have been suspended during the CORIV-19 crisis.

• Iowa driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations and license plates that expire during the state-ordered health emergency period do not have to be renewed until after the emergency is over.

• The Iowa Legislature has suspended its current session.

• The Iowa Supreme Court issued an order postponing all criminal jury trials and non-jury until April 20 and all civil jury trials and non-jury trials until May 4.

• The Iowa Department of Corrections has canceled all family visitations at state prisons.

• The Iowa Utilities Board issued an order that all electric and natural gas utilities in the state cease to disconnect residential service due to nonpayment until May 1.
