NORA SPRINGS (AP) — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources fined Nora Springs $6,000 for violating discharge limits set in its wastewater permit.The DNR also told city officials a new sewage plant must be built by October 2020. City administrator Deb Gaul says the city has hired a contractor to improve the plant and that city officials are working with the state to see whether the fine can be reduced. The DNR says the violations go back to 2010, when sewage fungus — a sign of inadequately treated wastewater — was found below the plant’s discharge pipe in the Shell Rock River.
