Dr. Michelle Im has been hired as a family medicine physician at the Floyd County Medical Center.

Rod Nordeng, FCMC administrator, announced the news recently that Im will begin her practice in Charles City in September 2020.

“To recruit a position into a small rural community is challenging, so we’ve been recruiting for a year,” said Nordeng.

Im has a year left on her residency at Meadville Medical Center in Pennsylvania. She is training in family medicine with obstetrics, and assisting with inpatient pediatrics.

“Specifically we’re looking for family medicine physicians who will deliver babies,” said Nordeng. Im will be able to deliver babies and assist in Cesarean sections during births.

Im graduated from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 2017 and State University of New York in 2011. She grew up on Long Island.

She likes to swim, practice yoga, cook, run and volunteer at animal shelters in her spare time.

Nordeng said Im isn’t replacing any leaving or retiring physician.

“We are planning for the future and how best we may serve our patients,” he said.
