The highlight of the homecoming pep rally is the crowning of the king and queen.

Watching the superintendent of schools get a pie in the face is a close second, though.

Lisabeth Fiser was named homecoming queen and Bradley Andrews was named homecoming king at the end of the Charles City High School pep rally held Friday afternoon at Comet Gym.

This year’s CCHS homecoming court was king candidates Andrews, Bronson Forsyth, Dawson Hinders, Brahiam Rios and Noah Reams. Queen candidates were Fiser, Cassandra Foxen, Alexandria Litterer, Priscilla Arenas and Astrid Hernandez.

The coronation was part of the 2019 CCHS Homecoming Week festivities. The theme for homecoming this year was “Lighting the Way.”

The pep rally began with an introduction of this year’s Comet Hall of Fame inductees. It ended with the king and queen crowning, and in between the students took part in a wide range of fun activities — including one where district teachers and administrators were randomly selected to have pies delivered into their faces by students of their choosing. Charles City Superintendent Mike Fisher was among the victims.

The 2019 Charles City Homecoming Parade followed the pep rally, and there were more festivities at the Friday night football game, which was followed by the homecoming dance.
