Former vice president and U.S. senator Joe Biden will make a campaign stop in Charles City the week after Thanksgiving, his campaign announced Thursday.

Part of his “No Malarkey” Iowa bus tour, Biden will visit 18 counties over eight days from Saturday, Nov. 30, through Saturday, Dec. 7.

He plans to be in Charles City at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, although the location of the event has not yet been announced.

Biden, who was vice president to President Barack Obama for two terms and a U.S. senator representing Delaware for 36 years, is also scheduled to be in New Hampton at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at a location to be announced.

Biden is the third of the top four polling candidates for the Democratic nomination for president to visit Charles City. Pete Buttigieg and Bernie Sanders have also been here recently.

The three of them, along with Elizabeth Warren, have consistently been among the top four positions in Iowa and national polls, with Biden most frequently leading the pack. None of the other dozen-plus candidates still in the running have cracked single digits in polling.

“When Joe Biden first announced he was running, he told Iowans they’d be seeing a lot of him — and he meant it,” said Greg Schultz, campaign manager for Biden for President.

“When it comes to protecting health care, rebuilding the middle class and defeating Donald Trump, Joe will continue laying out a clear vision about how he will deliver results for working families,” Schultz said.

The Iowa Caucuses, the first major contest in the presidential primaries, will be Monday, Feb. 3.

Other stops for Biden during his Iowa bus tour include Council Bluffs, Mason City, Ames, Waverly, Waterloo and Cedar Rapids.
