Cruisin’ the loop and getting their skate on.

That’s what about 65 kids decided to do on Friday night in Charles City as their favorite music blared top-40 tunes out of the speaker system at the local YMCA.

It was whiteout roller skating at the Y and the recreational activity was just one of the many activities to do during Cabin Fever Weekend, which is organized by the Charles City Chamber of Commerce.

“It gets the kids out of the house on Friday nights. The parents can just drop them off if you’re over age 6,” said Tonia Munshower, who was in charge of the Friday night skate.

Regular rolling skating begins at the YMCA on Fridays in October and runs into April. Kids and adults can skate on Friday from 6:30 p.m until 8:15 p.m on the hardwood gymnasium floor of the YMCA basketball courts.

Munshower helped lead limbo and 4-corner games for the kids. She said she also invented a new game, which was 6 corners. She said it’s kind of like musical chairs on roller skates.

“If I roll a six, everybody in that six spot is out,” said Munshower.

The YMCA also had an open swim from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday as part of the Cabin Fever Weekend Schedule. Anyone could also swim on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
