In spite of the thunderstorms that rolled through Charles City and much of Iowa on Monday morning, Rylee Weiss and Tucker Roberts were still selling ears of succulent sweet corn from their pickup truck parked in the Ace Hardware parking lot.

Harrington’s sweet corn trucks bring the regional treat to 8-10 different communities in the area. The produce farm, located near Nashua, covers a regional triangle with the cities of Decorah, Clear Lake and Cedar Falls at the corners. The produce farm sends 8-12 trucks out each day to nearly every community within those borders.

Harrington’s posts selling locations on its Facebook Page each day, and other produce such as tomatoes and melons may be coming soon, although Harrington’s is concentrating on sweet corn for the time being.

Weiss said the trucks of corn have been coming around for about three weeks now, and will be making their rounds until well into October. The Iowa dinner table staple is in high demand, rain or shine, and Roberts and Weiss said the trucks come pretty close to selling out with each stop.

Roberts said he did get a little wet in the rainstorm on Monday, but he actually prefers rainy days over the really hot ones.
