Audrey Roberta Burcham

Audrey Roberta Burcham, 86, passed away on June 11, 2016 in Mesa, Ariz. Audrey was born in Wyman, Iowa on Aug. 4, 1929 to Kenneth and Hildred Coates. Audrey went to various schools in eastern Iowa and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. Audrey moved to Sheffield with her parents and went to Hamilton Business College where she met Robert V. Burcham. Audrey and Bob were united in marriage on June 17, 1949. While Bob was serving in the Navy, son Michael was born in San Diego, Calif. on April 28, 1951. Then Timothy was born Aug. 12, 1952 in Mason City, Richard was born in Charles City on June 1, 1956, and Scot was born March 5, 1960 in Charles City.

One of Audrey’s favorite hobbies was crocheting, and she would then send the final product to various family members. Audrey also won many awards for afghans at various county fairs. After retirement, Bob and Audrey moved to Mesa, Ariz., where they have lived for 23 years. While living at The Resort she was affectionately known as “The Flower Lady.” She took care of all of the flowers in front of the complex to make sure they looked beautiful. The Resort has church services which Audrey had a major part in contributing for the past 15 years, with not only to the church service by supplying flowers, but also to the refreshments after the service.

Audrey is survived by her husband, Bob, of 67 years. She is also survived by her four sons: Michael of Cedar Rapids, Timothy (Patty) of West Burlington, Richard (Kathleen) of Rudd, and Scot (Kimmy) of Snow Hill, N.C. She is also survived by a brother Keith (Marjorie) Coates and two sisters: Janet (Bill) Peterson and Carol Kelly. Audrey is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and various nieces and nephews.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Hildred Coates.

A Celebration of Audrey’s Life will be held in Rudd on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Rudd Historical Building.
