Neal J. Hildebrand

October 4, 1930 – May 7, 2018

Neal passed away May 7, 2018 at the age of 87. Born October 4, 1930 in Powersville, IA to Norbert and Frieda (Schrage) Hildebrand, he was the third of three sons.  He is proceeded in death by his parents, Charles City, IA, and two brothers, Clarence of Woolstock, IA and Floyd, Colorado Springs, CO.  Neal grew up in Charles City where he attended school, met his future wife, and graduated from Charles City High in 1948.  He worked at the Oliver Tractor Company until enlisting in the United States Air Force, serving in Tokyo, Japan during the Korean War.  After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he attended Los Angeles City College, UCLA and University of California at Berkley, where he completed his undergraduate in Petroleum Engineering and earned a Masters in Engineering in 1959.  While in college he married Donna Jean Campbell in 1954 and began a 33 year career in the oil and gas industry with Standard Oil Company of California/Chevron in 1959.  Building a life together with Donna, he welcomed their first child, Marilyn in 1959 and their second, Ann in 1963.  After living and working in California, Alaska and Texas, Neal retired in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1992.  Neal is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna, his daughter Marilyn and son-in-law Greg Fox of Fullerton, CA, and daughter Ann Hildebrand of Spring, TX.  A memorial service honoring Neal’s life and resurrection in the Lord was held May 17, in Moraga, CA. Neal was laid to rest at Oakmont Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, CA.
