Phyllis A. Biekert

Phyllis A. Biekert, 78, of Mason City, died Monday (Sept. 3, 2018) at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday (Sept. 6, 2018) at Good Shepherd Health Center, 302 2nd St NE, Mason City,with the Rev. Clarke E. Frederick officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua.

Phyllis’ family will host a gathering of family and friends an hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Phyllis’ name to the Salvation Army.

The daughter of Arthur and Myrtle (Whitson) Hunt, Phyllis Ann Hunt was born on Sept. 6, 1939 in Charles City, the youngest of four children. She attended Charles City High School where she was a proud member of the Marching Band, playing the Clarinet. Phyllis graduated in 1958.

On July 3, 1960 Phyllis was united in marriage to Arnold “Mike” Biekert in Charles City after the two met while roller skating. Together they would be blessed with three children, Julie, Jerry, and Janet.

For many years the family resided in Marble Rock where Phyllis worked as a CNA at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. A job she truly loved, Phyllis was there to care for her many friends and relatives throughout the years. In 1978 the family moved to Northwood and Phyllis accepted a position working at the Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea. In 1978 Phyllis and Mike opened their home to Christophe Gnemmi, a foreign exchange student from France, and have considered him as part of their family since.

In 1985, after the death of Mike, Phyllis moved to Mason City. She made many friends in Mason City and worked for a time at the Hanford Inn. Due to health concerns Phyllis moved to Good Shepherd Health Center and was blessed to make many friendships, which became family, throughout the years. Phyllis’ family is extremely grateful for the loving care she received while there.

In her free time Phyllis loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved holidays and was known for her Thanksgiving dinners. Always a prankster, Phyllis kept things lively at Good Shepherd, especially the squirt gun water fights. She enjoyed taking day trips with her children and the occasional stop at the casino. In earlier years she enjoyed bowling league in Greene with her friends and collected many different trophies throughout the years.

Those grateful in sharing in her life are her children, Julie (Eugene) Wood, Mason City, Jerry Biekert, Mason City, and Janet (Don) Bottleman, Grafton; her grandchildren, Tara (Ben) Grothe, Eric Jensen, and Brandon (Molly) Bottleman; great grandchildren, Elexis Carrison, Shelby Heyden, Audrey Carrison, and Kamdyn Grothe; siblings, Arthur (Ruth) Hunt, Jr., Charles City, and Gloria Brimer, Fountain Hills, AZ; sister in law, Gordetta Hunt, Rockford; as well as her extended family and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Mike; granddaughter, Brigett Wirtjes, parents, Arthur Hunt, Sr., and Myrtle Hunt; brother, Richard Hunt; and brother in law, Jack Brimer.
