Clair ‘Stoney’ Stonecypher

Clair 'Stoney' StonecypherClair “Stoney” Stonecypher, 85, of Charles City passed away Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Floyd County Medical Center, Charles City, Iowa.

The family will gather from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Dave’s in 809 S Grand Ave, Charles City, IA 50616 in honor of Clair.

In lieu of customary remembrances, if friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America in Clair’s name. (alzfdn.org)

Clair Edwin Stonecypher was born May 4, 1933 in Floyd, the son of William and Belma (Quinby) Stonecypher. Clair grew up in Floyd, attending the Floyd School District. When he was 16 he joined the potato harvest in South Dakota, and later enlisted into the United States Navy where he served in Kwajalein and then at the Navy Air Station in Hutchinson, KS. In 1956 Clair married Ruth Fasching, and had two children, which he raised back in his hometown of Floyd. After retiring, Clair and Ruth spent 8 years traveling all over the United States in their motor home where they met many friends. When they were not traveling, the family settled in Charles City.

Clair enjoyed his coffee buddies, fishing and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Bill (Georgia) Stonecypher of Clear Lake and Penny Ruzicka of Charles City; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one on the way; a brother, LeRoy Stonecypher of Floyd; a sister, Diane Ramker of Greene; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Belma, as well as a sister, Anita.

He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.
