                   MARIETTA SYLVESTER

Marietta Bradley Sylvester, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 15, 2019 in Plymouth, Minnesota. Born in Greene, Iowa on July 12, 1923 she graduated from Greene High School and then attended secretarial school. She worked in Waterloo and Des Moines before marrying Keith Sylvester of Charles City on October 15, 1945. In 1951 Keith and Marietta opened Sylvester’s on Main Street in Charles City selling floor covering and draperies. In 1961 the business expanded to include furniture and became known as Sylvester’s Interiors. After the 1968 tornado Sylvester’s Furniture & Floors relocated to 9th Street and Highway 218 until they retired in 1968.

Marietta was active at St. John’s Lutheran Church and with the Charles City Women’s’ Club. She was an avid reader and belonged to several book clubs. She also enjoyed sewing, needlework and traveling with Keith and their friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Etta (Strickler) Bradley, Ira and Florence McRoberts, her husband Keith Sylvester and her sister Ethel Bradley Jewell. She is survived by her daughters Dawn Sylvester (Charles Nardin) of Mesa, AZ, Joy (Daniel) O’Bresky of Minneapolis, grandsons Eric (Gail) Newton, Thomas (April) Newton and great-grandson Westin Newton and beloved long-time family friend Linda Olson of Minneapolis
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, May 20, 2019 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main, Charles City. Officiating will be Rev. Russ Leeper. Visitation will be from 10 until service time at the church. Interment for both Marietta and Keith will be in Riverside Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Alzheimer Foundation.
