Sylvia Katherine ParmerSylvia Katherine (Smith) Parmer, 94, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on May 10, 2019, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly.

Sylvia was born on January 1, 1925, in Bremer County, Iowa, the daughter of Neil Houston and Anna Clara (Leitha) Smith. She attended school in Waverly and graduated from Waverly High School in 1942. She received her teachers training from Wartburg College. She taught school in the rural schools of Bremer County.

On July 10, 1948, Sylvia was united in marriage to Howard Glendon Parmer at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Waverly.

She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church, Women’s Fellowship and the Know Your Neighbor Club. Sylvia enjoyed quilting, cooking, traveling, gardening and watching the birds and squirrels. She especially enjoyed her time with her family.

Sylvia is survived by a daughter, JoAnn (Russell) Hardy of Mason City; a daughter, Nancy Huebner of Waterloo; a son, Darrel (Connie) Parmer of Charles City, and a son, Randy (Kim Blair) Parmer of Dunkirk, Maryland; eleven grandchildren, Lindsay (Jason) Cook, Landon (Amanda) Parmer and Logan Parmer; Jonathan, Jason, and Cindy Huebner; Ryan (Mandy), Kevin (Jodi) and Adam (Adria) Hardy; and Valerie and Carissa Parmer; fourteen great-grandchildren, Roman, Cadence, Jarin, Elias, Raina, Rowan, Aiden, Ella, Benjamin and Grace Hardy; Everett and Vaden Cook, Chloe Parmer, and Kylie Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard Parmer and two brothers, Neil Smith and her twin brother, Sylvester who passed away on April 23, 2019.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2019, at Heritage United Methodist Church in Waverly. Burial will follow at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also for one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
