Jeanette McDermott

Jeanette McDermott, 82, of Charles City, passed away suddenly November 19, 2019 with her loving and faithful husband, Leon, by her side holding her hand.

A funeral service for Jeanette McDermott will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home with Allan Whiteside officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Jeanette Alice McDermott was born January 22, 1937 to Ray and Hilda (Schernbeck) Swink with her father Ray delivering her in their rural home in western Iowa. She married the love of her life Leon Alvin McDermott, February 4, 1956 in Danbury, Iowa.

Jeanette loved to love on her family. She had a contagious smile and quick wit. She recently crocheted sunflower afghans for her children. Jeanette knitted multiple hats, scarves and slippers for family members. She sewed beautiful gifts for her daughters. Her hands were rarely still. Jeanette called her daughters daily, she will be missed enormously.

For many years Jeanette kept meticulous books for her and Leon’s retail store McDermott TV Sales and Service and MacSat Satellite Systems.

Jeanette looked forward to meeting with her neighbor’s on Wednesday mornings for coffee. She rarely missed her “Floyd” groups monthly get together. She loved her Tuesday card club friends and played to win!

Jeanette was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Jeanette is survived by her husband, Leon McDermott; four children: John (Karen) McDermott of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Pauline (Robert) Scheidecker of Clarksville, Joan (Steve) Julius of Barnum and Bill (Cindy) McDermott of Ankeny; eight grandchildren: David (Mandy) McDermott, Scott McDermott, Jacob McDermott, Steven (Kali) Scheidecker, Amy (Jason) Cameron, Tim Olejniczak, Ben McDermott and Emily McDermott; six great-grandchildren: Grant, Austin, Weston and Lincoln Scheidecker and Blake and Bryce Cameron.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Herman Swink; and sister-in-law, Sharon Swink.

Memorials will be directed by family.
