Funeral Services for Marjorie Butzlaff, 101, of Greene will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St. Greene, with Pastor Dan Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Marjorie Ruth Neal was born in Powersville, Floyd County, Iowa on September 7, 1918, to Robert Earl and Gertrude (Simpson) Neal and passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at the Valley View Care Center in Greene. She received her education in country school.

As a young woman, Marjorie taught music and that is where she met her future husband, Raymond. Marjorie played piano, organ and the accordion.
Marjorie was united in marriage to Raymond J.H. Butzlaff on December 21, 1939, at St. Peter Lutheran. Being a talented seamstress she was able to make all the family’s clothing even Raymond’s suits. She was a wonderful cook and baker. At the age of 88, she picked 105 qts. of raspberries, from her patch, and made jelly, jams and pies to give to her family and friends.

Marjorie’s love for sewing could be seen in the clothes she made for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. For years, she crocheted lots of doll clothes. Her home was filled with her beautiful creations. Marjorie loved anything that was crafty and used her imagination. She created many beautiful wedding cakes.

She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hobby Club, Packard Club, church quilt group and Prayer Shawl Group. She was still making prayer shawls (over 100) and quilts into her mid 90’s. In previous years, she played organ for the church and taught Sunday School.

She was a loving and wonderful, wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by her daughter-in-law, Brenda; grandchildren: John (Christine) Butzlaff, Diane Buss (Tim Buss), Allison Reams (Dennis Jensen); great-grandchildren: Crystal Wordes (Rob Wiedmeyer), Tabitha (Damien) Mennen, Angaleta Fisher, Miranda Fisher, Colin Butzlaff; step great grandchildren: Heather (Cody) Kennedy, Rich Galusha (Taylor Dawson), and great-great grandchildren: Kamron, Mallory, Jacob, Kyra, Emma, Maia, Noah, Jaymison, and Koah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond; son, Larry September 26, 2019, brother, William Neal and sister, Ethel Gehl.
