Betty L. Oudekerk, 87, formerly of 74 Cedar Terrace, Charles City, died Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Taylor House Hospice, Des Moines, Iowa

Fueral services will be held at 10:30 Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home 401 Blunt, Charles City. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Treichel of The United Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memorial Garden, Charles City. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Aging Resources or Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Betty was born on March 1st, 1932 in Hazelton, Iowa at the family home. She was the daughter of Henry LaVern and Lulu Soper Merrill. She attended Elementary School in Deer Creek, MN, and then graduated from Hazelton High School. She was employed as a nursing assistant in Independence. Betty was united in marriage to Koert Oudekerk Jr. on July 3, 1953 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and moved to Nashua. Later she lived in Colwell, Charles City and then Mason City. While in Charles City she worked for Norge and then Band Box Cleaners. She also sold Avon and Stanley products. She was a longtime volunteer with St. John preschool. When she developed Lewy Body Dementia she moved to Des Moines to be close to her daughter. She loved to sew and make quilts, doing search-a-word and regular puzzles. She wore out two electronic solitaire games. Mostly she enjoyed being with and taking care of family and friends.

Surviving Betty are her five children: Donna and her husband Doug Blunt of Charles City, Ruth Oudekerk of Colwell, Larry and his wife Aloha Oudekerk of Dike, Bruce Oudekerk of New Hampton, and Amy Oudekerk Ross Mimouni of Des Moines, six grandchildren: Cody (Kim), Eric (Sara), Ryan, Jenae (Chris) Alexis and Lacyona, six Great Grandchildren: Olivia, Braydon, Kayden, Kylie, Kalen, and Colton. Her cats Rupert and Kamera Kat. Also surviving are her sister Beula and Verna, along with many nieces and nephews. She was a beloved friend to many.
Preceding her in death are her husband Koert, her parents, and her sisters and brothers: Walter, Delbert LeRoy, Harry, Charles, Curly, Henry, Bess, Minnie and Gladys and Aeolus.
