Anna Mae Hermann

Anna Mae Hermann, 98, formerly of Rockford, IA died of natural causes on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at the Nora Springs Care Center. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family service will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford with inurnment following at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Anna Mae was born on Oct. 13, 1921 in Oelwein, IA to Edwin Leo and Mary Cecile (Bernard) Crahan. She attended school and graduated from I.C. school in Charles City, IA. After graduation Anna Mae worked for Salisbury Lab in Charles City as a bookkeeper. On Jan. 20, 1948 she was united in marriage to Marcus Hermann at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville, IA. To their union, two children were born, William and Joseph. Anna Mae then became a farmer’s wife as the couple and children lived on the family farm until moving into town in 1999. Later in life she worked for the CO-OP Elevator in Marble Rock, IA as a bookkeeper and lastly for McGregor’s Furniture in Charles City before retiring in 1984.

Anna Mae enjoyed gardening and canning. She knitted and crocheted many quilts, blankets, and afghans for her family. Anna Mae spent many years at the race track in Cedar Falls as the #1 fan of her family’s drag racing team. In her later years of life she was an excellent card player; especially Skip Bo and 500. She also liked doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Anna Mae and her husband were able to have the wonderful experience of traveling to Ireland together twice.

Anna Mae was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and also longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville. She was a Rosary Officer and CCD teacher for St. Mary’s. Anna Mae was also a part of the High Neighbor Club in Marble Rock.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, William “Bill” (Pam) Hermann and Joseph “Joe” (Karen) Hermann; grandchildren: Jeff (Angie) Hermann, Brian (Tonya) Hermann and Rob Hermann; great-grandchildren: Noel Marzan, Derrick Marzan, Colbie Johnson, Carter Hermann, Bailey Hermann; great-great-grandchild RaeLynn Johnson and sister-in-law, Mary Greiner.

She was preceded in death in 2009 by her husband of 61 years, Marcus Hermann; parents, Edwin and Mary Crahan; brother, Bill (Millie) Crahan; sister, Mary Jo (Alex) Mihm; brother-in-law, Leonard Greiner and sister-in-law, Margaret Hermann.
