Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Ziebell

Elizabeth “Betsy” Ziebell, 94, longtime Charles City area resident, joined with our Heavenly Father on July 3, 2020 at her home in Webster City, Iowa.

The family of Betsy extends an invitation to anyone who would like to attend her visitation or funeral; those in attendance will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines and to please wear a face covering, thank you for your understanding.

A funeral service for Betsy will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Jan Tjaden officiating. Burial will follow at West St Charles United Methodist Church Cemetery in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home.

Betsy was born April 21, 1926 to Herbert and Amy Clark of Floyd. She had seven siblings: Herbert, Francis, Mary, Josephine, Grace, Ruth, Robert and Marvin. She lived with the Burzette Family of Floyd during high school. After graduation in 1943, she attended AIB in Des Moines on a scholarship before joining her sister Ruth in Washington D.C. during WWII where she worked at the Department of Agriculture.

In 1945, Betsy married Clarence E. Ziebell and farmed 56 years in the Charles City area, raising three children, Robert Lee, Mary Lou and Betty Jo “B.J.” Lovejoy.

Betsy worked for several years at Sherman Nursery and was a devoted 4-H leader, Sunday School Teacher, serving as secretary for the UMW Mason City District, the secretary of the American Cream Draft Horse Association and president of the UMW at Faith United Methodist Church in Webster City.

As the wife of a farmer she helped care for animals, enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing produce. She was a gifted seamstress- constructing many pig skin items, loved doing genealogy research, bird watching, refinishing and caning her antique furniture, knitting, and studying her bible.

Living family members include her sister, Grace of Austin, Minnesota; brother, Marvin of Hayward, Wisconsin; two daughters: Mary Lou (John) Lindaman and B.J. (Randy) Wilson; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Lovejoy; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Betsy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence in 2002; son, Robert; 3 sisters; and 2 brothers.

Betsy will be remembered for her passion for missions, numerous charities, her kind and gentle manner, and her love of Jesus, Family and County.
