Sue Claire (McDowell) Baron, the daughter of Clarence and Inez Grace (McKinney) McDowell, was born Nov. 23, 1935 in Topeka, Kansas. She graduated from Manhattan High School in Manhattan, Kansas and continued her education by receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree from Kansas State University where she met Robert “Bob” Baron. Sue and Bob were married for 57 years and were blessed with four children and seven grandchildren. Sue’s life was devoted to her family, friends, community service, and her strong faith.

Sue was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church for over fifty years. She was active as a Sunday school and confirmation teacher, youth choir director, choir member, and card ministry organizer. Continuing her education, Sue attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music in 1990 and then served as the organist and choir director at Messiah Lutheran Church for 12 years. She provided monthly music for nursing home residents, and performed in Charles City Singers, Madrigal Singers and the French Horn Quintet for many, many years. Sue enjoyed nature, genealogy, her Nativity collection, travel, and music. Most of all, Sue loved regular talks and spending time with her family and friends.

Living family members include her four children: Mark (Karen) Baron of Rockland, Maine, Paul (Kelly) Baron of Burnsville, Minnesota, Rachel Baron of Des Moines and Sarah (David) Sullivan of St. Paul, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: Jessica, Anna, Isaac, Megan, Tim, Nolan and Brady; along with other family members and a host of friends.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Robert “Bob” Baron on Dec. 22, 2014; and brother, Max McDowell.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mayo Clinic, or the ALS Association (Iowa or Minnesota Chapter).

Online condolences may be left on the Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home Tribute Wall for the family at www.hauserfh.com.
