Alan Jay Farmer

Al was born on Sept. 21, 1959 in Osage, Iowa. He was the third child born to Ervin and Ruth (Eggena) Farmer. He received his education in Charles City and graduated from high school in 1978. His love of the land started at a very young age on the family farm where his little legs took him on many an adventure to see what the grown-ups were doing with farming, including driving the Farmall tractor bringing silage in at the age of seven. There was no other color of tractor than John Deere green with the purchase of his first tractor at age sixteen.

Al’s closest friends started calling him Albert sometime in high school and most people who knew and loved him just called him Al.

Al was a jack of all trades fixing campers, boats, cars, plumbing, home renovations and of course anything farm related.

The love of family ran deep in Al. After his dad passed, Al would stop at nothing to help his mother on the farm. His complete devotion and love for his mother saw them through a very difficult time.

Terry Meyer played match maker back in 1988 by giving Alan and Tracie a gift certificate for supper since they shared the same birthday. He tore the gift certificate in half and gave them each a half. The rest is history. Al and Tracie, and her two boys, married and became a family in March of 1990 and their journey began. What a journey it was.

Al’s best camping buddies, Jeff Jensen and Todd Gabel, were well known for their bag throwing skills. On more occasions than not at Happy Time Campground they played against very skilled opponents and came out the winners. They were dubbed king of the bags. Then many a Busch Light was enjoyed as they celebrated the win. They never met a 12 oz “pork chop” they didn’t like.

Survivors left to cherish his memory are his wife, Tracie Farmer; son, Cody (Liuliu) Wilson of Watertown, MA; son, Alex (Andrea) Heitz of Charles City, IA; three beautiful grandchildren that made his life complete: Lucas Wilson of Watertown, MA, Carter Zorzi and Lulu Heitz of Charles City, IA; mother, Ruth Farmer; siblings: Steve (Grace) Farmer of Charles City, IA; Judie (Jim) Raymond of Dike, IA; Janine (John) Schwarck of Riceville, IA; Brian (Theresa) Farmer of Charles City, IA; Darrin (Rachel) Farmer of Kansas City, KS; brother-in-law, Bob Parks of Sioux City, IA; sister-in-law, Sheryl (Randy) Stusse of Sioux City, IA; favorite sister-in-law, Barb Parks of Sioux City, IA; sister-in-law, Lisa Millage of Hawarden, IA; sister-in-law, Sue (Rick) Rague of Waconia, MN; also numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory for years to come.
