Marvin Duane Thompson

Marvin Duane Thompson, 89, of Charles City, IA died on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at his home.

Per his wishes, there will not be a funeral service. A graveside service of close family and friends will take place later in the spring.

Marvin Duane Thompson was born Feb. 2, 1932 to Louise Asbe in Forest City, Iowa. In third grade he moved to Britt, Iowa, and graduated from Britt High School in 1950. In 1953 Marvin enlisted into the US Army, proudly serving for two years.

Marvin married Patricia Chapman on May 25, 1953 (Memorial Day) in Fort Smith, Arkansas. They celebrated 63 years of marriage until Patricia’s passing on July 11, 2016.

Marvin was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City, a 50 year member of the Charles City Elks Lodge, a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge and a member of the American Legion.

Marvin is survived by two daughters: Julie (Gary) DeBower of Charles City and Lynn (Jim) Hicks of Waukesha, Wisconsin; grandchildren: Danielle (Brad) Ellingson of Charles City, Justin DeBower of Rockwell, Jimmy Hicks of Fort Collins, Colorado and Mathew Hicks of Waukesha, Wisconsin; brother, Roger (Becky) Haxton of Britt; nephew and nieces: Jarod (Jennifer) Haxton, Jolene (Cory) Leerar and Jeana (Jon) Wood; along with other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Haxton; wife, Patricia Thompson; and infant son, James D.
