Florene Johnson

Florene Johnson, 92, of Charles City, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral service for Florene Johnson will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Those in attendance at the visitation and funeral will be asked to please wear a face mask.

Florene Ida Johnson, the daughter of Worth and Vera (Chesnut) Clapp, was born on July 1, 1928 in Floyd. She attended school in Floyd, Fountain City, Wisconsin, and graduated from Charles City High School in 1946. Florene was united in marriage to George Royal on Nov. 10, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union four children were born: Paul, Jennie, Jim, and Barbara. After George’s passing in 1981, Florene married Laverne Johnson on Jan. 10, 1987 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City.

Florene was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a past member of Woman of the Moose and V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed her time bowling, fishing, sewing pillow cases, and cheering on the Chicago Cubs.

Living family members include her children: Paul Royal, Jennie (Darrell) Ross, and Barbara (Randy) DeBower; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her first great-great-grandchild expected this month; stepchildren: Sheryl (Dave) Jeffries; Nancy (Brian) Boggess, Mark (Lori) Johnson; 12 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; brother, Neil (Mary) Clapp; special niece, Betty; special dog, Bandit; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Royal; husband, Laverne Johnson; son, Jim Royal; daughter-in-law, Becky Royal; great-grandson, Ryan Hoffman; brother, Dale Clapp; and sisters: Neva Baehne, Lois Cross, and Georgia Luster.
