Larry Donald Freiberg

Larry Donald Freiberg, 78, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at the MercyOne North Iowa Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa of natural causes.

A public visitation for Larry will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford. Pastor Dennis Burns from First United Methodist Church in Rockford will officiate.

Larry Donald Freiberg was born Jan. 8, 1943, in Charles City, the son of Don and Ruth Freiberg.

Larry lived in Charles City all his life graduating from Charles City High School in 1961.

He was a graduate of the Iowa Military Academy in 1966, and served six years in the army National Guard. He received his business degree in 1969 from NIACC.

Larry had two careers and many part-time jobs in his lifetime, starting at age 13 working for his neighbor who had a large dairy farm operation. Larry started working at the Oliver Tractor Plant in 1962 after completing one year of college. He continued his education while working full time at Oliver.

Larry started as an inspector and worked his way up to supervisor of the inspection department total plant second shift when the plant reduced production and supervisors retired. Larry took over supervision of maintenance, tool room and material handling in addition to his regular inspection duties on second shift. He worked his entire life on the night shifts, weekends and holidays.

He also worked plant security during plant shutdowns and when needed. Larry was a licensed security guard and after the plant closed he went to work for Wells Fargo Security in Mason City.

He then went to work at Fort Dodge Animal Health (now Zoetis) as a company security guard for 22 years.

Larry had many hobbies turning one of them into a business.  He was an original “picker” and attended auctions, trade shows, and rummage sales looking for unique collectables. Larry never went on vacation and any spare time he devoted to his hobbies or part-time jobs.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his brother, Bill (Kathy) of Cedar Falls, three special nephews Mark and Jason (Beth) of Cedar Falls, and David (Becky) of Gooding, Idaho and great-nephews and nieces:  Leah, Ben and Mae of Cedar Falls, and Dawson and Aleena of Gooding Idaho; plus three very special friends who were a big part of Larry’s life: Makenzie and Shelley Pahnisch and Melisa (Shirley) Lammers.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
