Evelyn Schmidt

Evelyn Schmidt, 97, of Charles City, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral service for Evelyn Schmidt will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Russ Leeper from Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.  The family has asked that those in attendance for both the visitation and/or funeral service please wear a mask.

Evelyn Lucille (Paape) Schmidt, the daughter of Gust and Clara (Wulf) Paape, was born July 13, 1924 in Waltham, Minnesota where she also received her education. When Evelyn was finished with school she helped on the family farm.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Harvey Schmidt on Nov. 18, 1945 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Waltham, Minnesota.  The couple made their home in Austin, Minnesota before moving to the Floyd, Iowa area. She worked at the Uptown Café, Ray’s Pizza Kitchen and with the Foster Grandparent program in Charles City for over 30 years (working most of her time at St. John Christian Preschool).

Evelyn was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Heritage Club at First Citizens Bank. She enjoyed going for walks, putting jigsaw puzzles together, working crossword puzzles, watching baseball on T.V. and going on bus trips with the Heritage Club.

Living family members include her children: Harlan (Dorothy) Schmidt of Stacyville, Linda (Rodney) Tripp of Garner and Marilyn (Delvern) Lindloff of Rockford; four grandchildren: Sam (Julie) Schmidt, Penny (Matt) Lawrence, Kristie (Dave) Shropshire and Andrew (Kristen) Lindloff; granddaughter-in-law, Kendra Lindloff; six great-grandchildren: Brigg, Brody, Alyssa, A.J., Jacob and Araiha; special little friend from St. John Christian Preschool, Phillip Ackley; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey; son, Richard; two infant sons; grandson, Travis Lindloff; sister, Verna (Arnold) Wutachke; and one infant brother.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in Evelyn’s name be given to Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church for St. John Christian Preschool.
