Robert Marty

Robert (Bob) Lee Marty passed away Thursday, Oct. 7 with his family by his side. Bob is preceded in death by his wife Gwendolyn Ann Marty on Oct. 22, 2020. Graveside funeral services for Bob and Gwen will be held at Sunnyside Memorial Gardens on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. with a celebration of life following at 1203 N Grand Avenue in Charles City.

Robert was born July 17, 1933 to Edwin and Evelyn Marty. He attended country school and after graduating high school he attended Eagle Grove Community College. From 1952-1953 Bob served with the 35th M.P. Company in the Iowa National Guard. Then in 1954 he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was deployed to North Africa during the Korean War as a cryptologist. He earned the rank of A1C (Airman First Class). After being honorably discharged in 1960 he joined his brother Eldon in the cheese making business in Waltham, MN and later in Oxford, NE where they were the largest employer in town. Bob married Gwendolyn on Feb. 25, 1961. Together they raised a family while he had many different work opportunities. He was a cheese maker, farmer, stock broker, and owned many businesses, including the Coast to Coast store and Marty’s Carpet Cleaning Company in Charles City.

Living Family members include sons Christopher (LaVonne) Marty, Jeffrey (Julie) Marty, daughters Roberta (Bill) Shultz, Elizabeth (Barry) Tams, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gwen, his parents, brother Eldon, and sister Janice.
