Lowell Eugene was born Dec. 29, 1938 in New Hampton, IA, the son of Kenneth and Mildred (Trewin) Head. As a child, Lowell was raised in rural Chickasaw County and graduated from Charles City High School in 1957. After completing his education, Lowell enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his nation on aircraft carriers, USS Yorktown and USS Ranger, in the East Pacific as an electronics technician on the planes. He returned home in 1961 and began his lifelong career farming with his father and working at Oliver in Charles City. While bowling with friends one evening, Lowell met the love of his life, Sandra K. Oleson. The couple was united in marriage on Sept. 14, 1963. The couple made their home on their present farm shortly after their union. Together, they welcomed their three children, Teresa, Myron and Daron and farmed together all their married lives. For many years, Lowell was an area DeKalb dealer.

Lowell and Sandra enjoyed traveling together throughout the country as well as internationally. When they weren’t traveling the globe, they enjoyed visiting their grandchildren and chasing their athletics.

Those left to honor his memories are his wife, Sandra Head of Alta Vista; his children, Teresa (Joe) Hickey of Mason City, Myron (Melanie Beaston Ondrashek) Head of Elma, IA and Daron Head of Ames, IA; his grandchildren, Jacob (Allison) Head, Myranda (Eli Albrecht) Head, Alyssa (Jason Rohrbeck) Hickey, Alexa (Devon Holthaus) Head, Brittany Hickey, Justin (Tracy) Head, Dalton Head, Joseph Head, and Taylor; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Donald Oleson of Las Vegas, NV and niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bonnie (Richard) Halstead; great-grandson, Bryson Holthaus.
