Explaining the Community Fund

There seems to be a lot of confusion in regard to the Charles City Community Fund. Who are they?

The Charles City Community Fund was formerly the Charles City United Way.

Another misconception is that Floyd County Community Foundation and the Charles City Community Fund are the same organization. They are not associated in any way, other than they both help those in Charles City and the surrounding area.

In 2015, the Charles City Community Fund will distribute over $40,000 to the following agencies in Charles City and Floyd County: the Charles City YMCA, TLC, Foster Grandparents, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, PAWS, Dollars for Scholars, Charles City Arts Council, Caring Connections, Crisis Intervention, Floyd County Historical Society, The Food Pantry, Francis Lauer, Home Health Care and Lutheran Social Services.

These distributed funds go toward scholarships, counseling, proactive intervention, putting food on family tables and much more.

The funding that is given to these agencies is raised through generous contributions from individuals and businesses within our community and the surrounding area. They also raise money through community projects and events. A winter bowling Tournament is planned with a date to be determined. If you are interested in making a donation to the Charles City Community Fund, payroll deductions are available through many employers. Most donations given to the North Central United Way do not come to the Charles City Community Fund to be distributed in our community. Tax deductible donations can always be sent to P.O. Box 356. Look for our brochure coming in the mail soon. All money that is raised through the Charles City Community Fund stays in Charles City and Floyd County.

The Charles City Community Fund is comprised of a board of directors including Kathy Crooks, Scott Andrews, Kalen Schlader, Mike McCarty, Jessica Daniels, William Baresel, Brian Fuller and Cheryl Fuller.

If you have a desire to join an organization to help your community and are not sure which one, please consider the Board of the Charles City Community Fund. You can help multiple agencies by doing so. Allocation meetings will be taking place soon to determine the agencies that will receive funding in 2016.

If you are interested, please reach out to any of the Board members listed. You can also contact us through our Facebook page at www. facebook/charlescitycommunityfund. com or our e-mail charlescitycommunityfund@gmail.com.

Questions can also be directed to Cheryl at 641-3301277.
