CITY NOTES: Creative, exciting year ahead at the Charles City Arts Center

By Jacqueline Davidson, Director, Charles City Arts Center

The Arts community of Charles City showed Iowa what the arts are about this last year. However, this year promises to be even better:

  • The Charles City Singers representative Barb Wohlers reports a spring concert is scheduled Saturday, April 27. The theme is to be Americana.
  • The Charles City Orchestra representative Mark Huegel reports Thursday, March 31, will be that group’s spring concert.
  • The Stony Point Players are thrilled to announce “Fiddler on The Roof” will be presented the weekend before July 4th.
  • Susan Strong is heading a request for a new public art sculpture that is to be placed in the Grace Larson Park.

Further information will be released on these events soon.

  • The Charles City Arts Center started this year out with a strikingly beautiful show by Des Moines Artist Autumn Rozario Hall, “Moments of Wonder,” which is on exhibit through February at The Arts Center.
  • A “Romeo and Juliet” Valentines Dinner was held Friday, Feb., 15, featuring a Florentine menu by Stewart Dalton and readings from Shakespeare and other love sonnets by members of Michael Lembke’s speech class at the Charles City High School.
  • “Women of Art,” a show of works from Kurt Meyer’s private collect of female artists from around the world, will be shown in the month of August at The Arts Center.
  • Also in August, to support the Floyd County History Museum, a joint effort will be held. Replacing Artafest and Pioneer Day, Art and Heritage will be held in Andres Park on Saturday, Aug. 20th.

A new artist is featured every month at The Charles City Arts Center. The first Friday of every month a new display is opened with an artist’s reception starting at 5 p.m.

Mary Nordeng, Amy Chatfield and Andrew Abney are just a few of our talents that will be shown this year.

We also bring in the Charles City High School artists to take over the Arts Center for the month of April.

Life is good in Charles City and one of the main reasons for that is our remarkably strong support of the arts and artists of the Charles City.

Let us always celebrate our wonderfully creative community.
