Letter to the Editor: Don’t give up on COVID precautions now

By Terry Miller, Charles City

I guess people in Charles City aren’t worried about COVID-19 or the more transmittable variant anymore.

I went to five places of business in the last couple of days and their shields weren’t up, employees and customers had no masks on. I guess they don’t watch TV or read the newspaper.

We all took our shots for the last disease outbreak, so why the difference now? Are you worried about your freedom not to take the vaccine or mask up?

Only 50% of Iowa is vaccinated. Our governor says, “People will do the right thing,” but evidently they aren’t.

I got five shots before I went to kindergarten in the 1950s, and later a polio shot. One person died of polio in my class.

I had dozens of shots when I was in the Marines. They even gave us bubonic plague shots in Okinawa before we went to Vietnam.

We will never have herd immunity at the rate things are going now.

Please take the safety precautions if you are a business and everyone wear a mask. The COVID-19 and variant are not over!
