Comets receive 1st-round bye in softball regionals

Press Staff Report
After winning the first 30 games of the season, clinching a third-straight Northeast Iowa Conference title, and reaching as high as No. 2 in the latest Class 4A rankings, the Charles City Comets received a first-round bye in the Class 4A-Region 3 softball bracket.

The Comets will play the winner of the Decorah-vs.-Waterloo East first-round game at 7 p.m. July 13 at Sportsmen’s Park.

The regional championship game will take place at 7 p.m. July 16 — if Charles City advances, it will host the championship at Sportsmen’s Park due to being the highest ranked team in the bracket.

In the Class 1A-Region 8 bracket, North Butler received a bye and will host the winner of the Nashua-Plainfield-vs.-West Fork first-round game at 7 p.m. July 10 at the North Butler Softball Field in Allison.

The winner of the latter game will play the winner of the Newman Catholic-vs.-West Bend-Mallard first-round game at 7 p.m. July 10 at the site to be determined.
