Colton Crooks, Sydney Ross top shots for CC/N-P trapshooters

Press Staff Report

There are hot shooters and there are cold shooters.

You can place Charles City senior Sydney Ross in the latter category.

During what turned out to be a “snowy” weekend, Ross hit a personal season-best tally of 43 out of 50 clays at the Cresco Trapshooting Invitational last Saturday.

The scores were notably low during the inclement conditions, but Ross has already proven she can shoot competitively amid the cold and the wind.

Among senior girls, Ross placed second after losing a subsequent shootoff.

While shooting in much better weather for Charles City/Nashua-Plainfield’s following home meet against New Hampton on Monday, Ross hit 33 of 50 clays, which paced CC/N-P female shooters.

The Charles City No. 1 team of Colton Crooks (48 of 50), Daniel Laube (46), Brayton Quade (45), Keaton Schmidtke (42) and Cael Ruzicka (41) shot a team season-best 222.

Justin Heyer and Drew Roethler both shot 45s on other Charles City squads, and Micaiah Groothais’s 42 was the best from a Nashua-Plainfield shooter.
