Ten new positive COVID cases reported in Floyd County over the last week

The Floyd County Department of Public Health reported 10 new positive cases in the county between Aug. 4-11.

According to a release, as of Aug.11, 43.2% of all eligible Floyd County residents are fully vaccinated. The 14-day positivity rate is 4.8%.

Statewide, Iowa has averaged about 600 cases of COVID a day, the highest number since mid-February. The incidence of new cases increased by 167% in the last 14 days. Hospitalizations have increased in recent weeks. State public health officials said 6,193 people have died in Iowa.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Monday that 59% of eligible Iowa residents had been fully vaccinated. In some counties, fewer than 40% of residents have been vaccinated.

As of Wednesday, 91 of Iowa’s 99 counties are in the high or substantial rate of spread, a rate at which the CDC recommends masks in indoor public settings. This includes Floyd County. The remaining eight counties have moderate rate of spread.

Of the 10 positive cases reported in Floyd County, two were children under the age of 17, three were between the ages of 18-40, four were between the ages of 61-80 and there was one case where the infected person was over the age of 81.
