SCPD releases fi rst- quarter crime statistics

The Silver City Police Department has released crime statistics comparing the first quarter of 2012 with the same period in 2011.

Calls coming into the SCPD station requesting service during the first quarter of 2012 remained virtually the same as in 2011 — 3,105 in 2012 versus 3,081 in 2011. However, offi cer- initiated calls, which include crimes witnessed by officers, such as moving traffic violations, fights, and other offenses, increased in the first quarter of 2012 over the same period in 2011 by 21 percent — 9,024 from 7,129.

Increases in the first quarter of 2012 over the first quarter in 2011 in individual offense categories were arrests — 336 versus 246; total number of charges — 599 versus 438; alarms — 166 versus 155; robbery — three versus one; aggravated assault — 11 versus nine; burglary — 43 versus 18; larceny — 95 versus 82; animal complaints — 294 versus 264; citations/ warnings — 81 versus 32; and criminal damage to property — 51 versus 44.

Those individual categories decreasing in the first quarter of 2012 from the first quarter of 2011 were citations issued — 2,756 versus 3,103; motor vehicle collisions — 115 versus 124; forcible rapes — three versus five; simple assaults — 41 versus 47; domestic disturbances — 109 versus 111; injuring or tampering with a motor vehicle — 47 versus 51; and driving while intoxicated — 14 versus 23.

Unchanged was the murder and non-negligent manslaughter category with none in the first quarter of each year.
