Chautauqua aide certified in Tai Chi

To the Press

Chautauqua Guest Homes, Inc. is pleased to announce that Chelsea Zweck, certified rehabilitation aide, recently completed course work in Tai Chi for Arthritis Instructor-Training for Fall Prevention.

This education, conducted in Clive is a component of the Evidence-Based Falls Prevention Programs Grant from the Administration on Aging. It is administered in Iowa through the Iowa Falls Prevention Coalition and included participants from throughout the state.

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese exercise system consisting of slow and relaxed movements. Tai Chi has been proven to increase balance, functional mobility and flexibility; increase strength; reduce the risk of falling, reduce pain and stress and increase well-being. Course work completion will be accompanied by working with certified instructors to increase skills.

Both 11th Street and 9th Street Chautauqua currently offer Tai Chi classes on a very limited basis. With Chelsea’s new training, Tai Chi will be expanded at the facilities, especially on the second shift, to assist residents in improving and maintaining ambulation and mobility function. Chelsea also hopes to offer community education in the future.”
