Joseph David Thorne

Joseph David Thorne was born to David and Kelly Thorne on January 23, 1978, in Waverly, lA. He was chosen to join God on September 10, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at University of Chicago Hospital.

Joseph attended Allison Bristol High School, graduating in 1996 with honors. He furthered his education at UNI in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and then graduated with a Marketing BA summa cum laude at Upper Iowa. He met Jennifer Marth at UNI and instantly knew she would become his wife. They were united in marriage March 8, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charles City, Iowa. In 2011 they welcomed their beautiful daughter, Anayla, in Chicago, where they decided to build their life.

He was a jack of all trades, accomplishing photography, caregiving, retail sales management, and his most important job of all — full-time father and husband. His greatest joy in life was Anayla and watching her participate in all of her activities. He loved traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

Joe was also an avid Minnesota Vikings, Michael Jordan, Twins and Hawkeyes fan. If you didn’t love them all ,“It’s OK, not everyone is perfect.” Joe was a kind and selfless person who was willing to help anyone.

Joseph was survived by his wife Jennifer; daughter Anayla; parents David and Kelly; brother Daniel (Alexis); nieces and nephews Harrison, Harper and Harlow; grandmother Bonnie; uncles James (Kim) and Dale (Kenyan). In-laws, parents Dan and Selma Marth; sisters-in-law Jodie (Brad) Hollatz, Darcie (Kevin) Hochstetler; brothers-in-law Derek (Nikole) Marth, Michael Marth; grandfather-in-law Barney Winfield; nieces and nephews Paige, Michael, Kayla, Julius, Abram, Ephram, lzzy; cousins Ashleigh (Braxton) Lindow and Brian (Melissa) Dralle; and many more aunts, uncles, and cousins that he loved.

Joseph was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leroy Dralle, James and Margorie Thorne.
