Kenneth ‘Ken’ Lovrien

Kenneth “Ken” Lovrien, 87, of Charles City, was called home to his Lord on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral service for Ken will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd with Pastor Paul Phillips officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service on Thursday at the church.

Kenneth Russell Lovrien, the son of Russell and Edna (Shelgren) Lovrien, was born on Dec. 21, 1934 in Grinnell. He graduated from Humboldt High School and then received his bachelor’s degree from Iowa State. Ken enlisted into the United States Army after high school, retiring as lieutenant colonel. He then taught classes through the Army at NIACC.

Ken was united in marriage to Mary White on Aug. 29, 1959 in Calumet City, Illinois. Ken was an insurance salesman, working for different companies before owning his own insurance business in Charles City. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and a bowling league. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and crossword puzzles. Above everything, Ken was a family man and was always there for them.

Living family members include his daughters, Becky Orcutt and Marie Lovrien; grandchildren: Jessamy, Hannah, Ashley, Jacob, Gabrielle, Samuel, Catlyn, and Cody; great-grandchildren: Strawberry, Elijah, Jameson, Beckham, Luka, Olivia, and Arabella; siblings: Richard (Charolette) Lovrien and Dr. Fred (Sharon) Lovrien; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; sons, Russell and Kevin Lovrien; son-in-law, James Orcutt; and siblings, Rachel Woltman and Alan Lovrien.
