Dotta May (Zipse) Bissonnette, the daughter of William Raymond and Dorothy Elsie (Hauser) Zipse, was born July 6, 1935 in Cresco, Iowa. The family later moved to Charles City where Dotta graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in 1953.

On Oct. 16, 1954, Dotta was joined in marriage and moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. This union was blessed with four children: Daniel, Dawn, Diane and Heather. The marriage later ended in divorce.

After returning to Iowa in 1964, Dotta attended Mason City Junior College and received a Certificate in Business and Secretarial Courses.

On July 25, 1966, Dotta was united in marriage which later ended in divorce. This union was blessed with two children:  James and Renee.

In January of 1979, Dotta’s son, Jimmy, passed away after fighting a long hard illness. His devoted mother was by his side throughout his illness. Dotta’s remaining son, Danny, passed away in 1998.

Dotta was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City where she was involved with various circles. She was an avid bowler (every Monday and Tuesday night) and absolutely loved it along with the camaraderie and the great friendships forged. Dotta and playing cards (especially 500) were a serious business. She took part in the 500 marathon for years in Charles City and her family learned from one of the best card sharks around.

Family, Family, Family…this was Dotta’s motto. She was so proud of her role in life as homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. Dotta attended as many of her family’s extra-curricular activities as possible, and took trips at least twice a year to see her family in Colorado.

One thing that gave Dotta great enjoyment, especially after her son’s death, was antiquing. At any time you could find her in her (or her aunt’s) Cadillac taking her mother, aunt and very frequently Heather to dealers, exquisite shops and auctions where more than likely purchases were made. Dotta took great pride in her home and was always ready to give a tour to anyone who would stop in, and she knew everything about each piece that was displayed in her home. This passion was carried on by some of her daughters.

Living family members include four daughters: Dawn Eisinger of Lakewood, Colorado, Diana Speed of Charles City, Heather Meyer (Steve Cerwinske) of Nashua and Renee D’Aloia of Thornton, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Kathy Shook of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren: Jason Shook of Marion, Jessica (Beau) Tiernan of Cedar Rapids, Kathleen (Ian) Yarberry of Littleton, Colorado, Kelly (Roy) Eisinger of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Clare (Derrick) Eisinger of Arvada, Colorado, Tommy (Chrissy) Eisinger of Lakewood, Colorado, Christina Speed Weber of Aurora, Colorado, Cody (Sarah) Meyer of Stacyville, Cassidy (Tyler) Larson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Danielle (Tanner) Noffsinger of Arlington, Texas, Brittney D’Aloia of Denver, Colorado and Amber D’Aloia of Denver, Colorado; 15 great-grandchildren; two nieces; one nephew; and her cousin.
