Leo Tynan, 81, of Charles City, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at Cedar Health in Charles City.
Funeral services for Leo Tynan will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag, of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue Friday an hour prior to the service.
Leo James Tynan was born Dec. 19, 1926, at Charles City, the son of James and Lettie (Herman) Tynan. He received his education at Charles City. Leo proudly served with the United States Army in Europe during World War II. On Dec. 1, 1947, he was united in marriage to Barbara Nelson at Austin, Minn. Leo worked at Albaugh Pontiac, Harrison Ford, and from 1962 to 1994 for Allied Construction. He was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Leo enjoyed working on cars and traveling to see his family.
Living family members include a son, Richard “Dick” Tynan of Rockford; two grandchildren, Richard Tynan, Jr. and Racheal Tynan; two great grandchildren, Mercedes and Lexus Tynan; two brothers, Darrell Dean Tynan and Jack (Judy) Tynan both of Charles City; three sisters, Mary Sprague of Charles City, Beverly (Larry) Luck of Plainfield and Juanita (Wayne) Miller of Boulder Colo.; and a special nephew, Dennis “Denny” (Virginia) Tynan of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara on Oct. 5, 2000; an infant daughter; a daughter-in-law, Diane Tynan; a brother, Gerald “Jimmy” Tynan; and a sister, Rose Washburn.
