Fern Tack, 88, of Floyd, went to her heavenly home, surrounded by her family on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.
Funeral services for Fern Tack will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd.  Pastor Robert Holdorf and Chaplain Kent Mechler will officiate.  Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4-8 p.m. on Monday.  Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church an hour prior to the service.
Fern Elizabeth Schrage Tack was born Aug. 15, 1920, in Allison, the daughter of Abel and Jennie (Dickman) Schrage.  She received her education in rural Butler County.  Fern worked for a brief time at the Greene Variety Store.  On March 19, 1941, she married the love of her life Galen Tack at her parents’ farm near Greene.
Fern and Galen farmed in the Greene area before moving to Floyd where they farmed for over 50 years.  Fern was a 50 plus year member of the Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and various circles, served on the church board as secretary, and was a Sunday School teacher for over 25 years.  She also belonged to the Charles City Senior Citizens, Heritage Club, Neighborhood Birthday Club and 60 Plus at Floyd.  Her interests included sewing, cooking, flower and vegetable gardening and playing cards.  Her family was always very special to her and looked forward to the times they could share their lives together.
Living family members include three daughters, Jan (Ron) Tjaden of Floyd, Donna (Allen) Ricks of Hudson, and Gayle Hoy of Floyd; five grandchildren, Renee (Scott) Kramer, Sarah (Shane) Van Waardhuizen, Eric (Michelle) Hoy, Melinda Hoy and special friend Jamie Cook, and Philip (Jessica) Hoy; six great grandchildren, Jennifer, Cody and Tjaden Kramer, Ella Van Waardhuizen, Jared Cook, Olivia Hoy, and a great granddaughter soon to be born;  a sister-in-law, Helen Brewer of Charles City; a brother-in-law, Glendale (Gladys) Tack of Salinas, Calif.; three nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Galen on Aug. 17, 2007; a son-in-law, Randall Hoy on Jan. 16, 2004; three brothers, Roy (Eva), Earl (Maurine), and Merlin “Bud” Schrage; and a brother-in-law, Reverend Oliver Brewer.
