Velma Murphy, 88, of Charles City, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services for Velma Murphy will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City, with Pastor William Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Velma Buella Fisher Murphy was born March 11, 1920, at Charles City, the daughter of Emil and Fannie (Lines) Fisher. She graduated from the Charles City High School in 1938. On June 3, 1939, she was united in marriage to Robert Murphy. They lived in the Floyd County area until Robert entered the United States Army in April of 1943. When he returned they lived the rest of their lives in Charles City. Robert died on Jan. 29, 1999. Velma’s interests included shopping and collecting Hummels.
Living family members include a brother, Amil (Dorothy) Fisher of Charles City; a nephew, Gary (Ann) Fisher of Charles City; two nieces, Susan Fisher of Burnsville, Minn. and Donna (Harold) Leek of Dodgeville, Wisc.; several great nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Marrian Linde of Charles City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Donald Fisher.
