Eugene H. Monroe

TUMWATER, Wash. -

 Eugene H. Monroe, formerly of Nashua and Charles City, passed away on Nov. 6, 2008, in Olympia, Wash.
 Gene was born in September of 1924 in Bassett, Iowa, the second son of Herbert and Viola (Rausch) Monroe. He was raised in Nashua and Charles City. Instead of graduating with his class in 1943, he enlisted in the US Army.  He returned to Charles City High School to graduate with the class of 1947.  Upon his retirement from the Army in 1965, he moved to Tumwater, Washington where, among other work, he was an aerospace machinist with Boeing.  He received an Associate Degree from Centralia Community College in 1974.
He married his beloved wife, Virginia Fohl, in Cedar Grove, Indiana on Oct. 27, 1951.  They had five sons, Herb, Mike, Dave, Ray (Karen) and Guy (Pam); one daughter, Rose; and five grandchildren, Amber, Tasha, Ocean, Harlie and Merlin - all whom reside in Washington. He is also survived by a step-brother, Roger Bradshaw of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Oral Bradshaw; two brothers, Virgil and Merlin; one step-brother, Dale Bradshaw; and three step-sisters, Marjorie Jones, Betty Krogh and Marlys Miller.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m. at Mills & Mills Funeral Home, 5725 Littlerock Rd SW, Tumwater, WA 98512, (360) 357-7743). Visitation will begin an hour before and interment will directly follow the services.
