Vera Mae Grimm, 85, formerly of Mt. Vernon and more recently a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion, died there Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, following a long illness. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at the Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by Rev. Mark Gefaller. The family will greet friends from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Springville Cemetery in Springville.
Survivors include her children, Lewis Grimm of Marion and Dr. Greig (Marcia) Grimm of Charles City; a brother, Ralph Jr. Howland of Idaho; a sister Barb (Don) Dalton of Florida; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steve Grimm, and two brothers; Ray and Frank Howland.
Vera was born on Feb. 18, 1923, the daughter of Ralph and Cleora (Lary) Howland in Cedar Rapids. She loved her two dogs and making crafts with her grandchildren. Vera was very active at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon. She was also very active in many different volunteer programs — especially the food bank.
