Harold John Vetter, 82, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Kutis Home Chapel, 10151 Gravois Rd in Affton, Mo. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Kutis Funeral Home.
Harold was born March 1, 1926, in Nashua, one of five children, to John and Ida Vetter. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II on the USS Cowie. Following duty, he met Nettie Lorene Nelson and married in Charles City, which began 61 years of beautiful life together. He was a natural born problem solver, earning a mechanical engineering degree from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He worked as a mechanical contractor and engineer in the St. Louis area the last 58 years.
Harold loved to travel and frequented many countries internationally, as well as within the United States. Harold and Nettie loved going home to Iowa and visiting family and friends. A huge place in his heart was his faith, family, and friends. He was an active member at St. Thomas Holy Spirit Lutheran church. Harold loved family gatherings and made a point to keep in touch with everyone. Good food, a pick up card game, or simply catching up and sharing stories with family and friends always brightened his day. As a father and grandfather, we appreciated him not telling us how to live; he lived, and let us watch him do it with grace, integrity, and helping others in need. Harold and Nettie moved to Mansfield, Texas, this last year. Harold was loved and respected by many and has left his imprint on the lives of his family and friends.
Living family members include his wife, Nettie; sons Paul Vetter (Linda) and Harold John Vetter II (Alice); daughter Susan Gerlach (Todd); six grandchildren and five greatchildren; and a sister, Lillian Brown.
He was preceded by his son, Ken; and brothers Arnold, Floyd and sister Pauline.
