Shirley Barrett, 72, of Charles City, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Charles Dorsey of Saint John’s United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time.
Shirley Ella Barrett was born July 7, 1936, at Marble Rock, the daughter of William and Nettie “Elizabeth” (Ovaitt) Barrett. She received her education from the Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Charles City. Shirley worked as a home health caregiver and then at the Salsbury Baptist Home until she retired. She enjoyed family visits, listening to country music, watching figure skating and reality television programs. Shirley will be remembered for her sense of humor, for being a good listener and always being there for her family. Living family members include a brother, Joseph (Janice) Barrett of Charles City; a brother-in-law, Orval Walton of Cedar Rapids and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John “Jack” Barrett; three sisters, Joann Barrett, Pat Ries and Jane Walton.
