Schueth Ace Hardware celebrates 10th anniversary
To the Press
The Charles City Chamber Ambassadors recently visited Schueth Ace Hardware at 300 Gilbert St., to help owners Doug Schueth and Jackie Perkins celebrate the store’s 10th anniversary in town.
The family-owned business was started in New Hampton in 1922 by their grandparents, Jerome and Irene Schueth. Since then their father and their uncle have both gotten involved in the hardware and gift store, before Doug got involved in 1992 and Jackie joined in 2000 when their dad retired.
The Schueths opened the Charles City location in 2005, employing between 12-15 people including store manager Shirl Stone. Doug and Jackie split their time between the two stores and have enjoyed the Charles City experience.
“There are a lot of great things happening in Charles City and we’re glad we’re here,” said Perkins. “Shopping our hometowns is very important and we strongly encourage our customers to take full advantage of what their towns have to offer. It’s good for everybody .. and we hope that we have been good for this community.”
Between the two stores Schueth Ace Hardware serves a trade area throughout Floyd County, as well as from Nashua to Osage and to Clarksville. Perkins noted that they see alot of gift customers from as far as Waverly and Cedar Falls.
“We continue to grow and expand our lines,” pointed out Doug. “We have invested a lot in a redesigned paint area, which is now computerized and so much more accurate. Our light bulb section has been completely redone with over 10 feet just of LED light products. Ace has been at the forefront of promoting LED use. Our gift section is constantly changing and we also draw well with our shades and blinds.”
The in-store popcorn is also a customer favorite … especially on Saturdays when there is fresh caramel corn. “We see a lot of kids accompany their mom or dad into the stores on Saturdays,” Doug chuckled.
