Andrea Hobson is a 4-H veteran. As a 4-H-er in Worth County, Hobson served on the 4-H county council, area council and state council. During one summer, she held a paid internship with Butler County.
“I was the summer program assistant in Butler,” Hobson said.
When Hobson saw the opportunity to hold a similar position, Iowa State University Extension 4-H Program Assistant in Floyd County, she jumped at the chance.
“I had been selling headstones for (the past) four years,” she said.
Hobson often worked alone in an office and was eager to find a career that allowed for more interaction.
“Getting to be back in the community,” Hobson said of her biggest excitement in obtaining her new position.
Being involved with others was also Hobson’s favorite part of being in 4-H.
“Getting to meet all the people, that was the best part about being in 4-H,” she said. “Getting to meet and make friends all over the state.”
As the 4-H program assistant, Hobson has a few plans she hopes to implement in improving the 4-H experience.
“We’re looking at possibly implementing a mini 4-H between Clover Kids and regular 4-H,” she said.
This intermittent program would be geared toward third and fourth grade students. Hobson also hopes to increase the presence of 4-H in the schools.
“We’re also trying to get in the different school systems with pick a better snack and ‘Pint Size Science,” she said.
Currently, Hobson resides outside of Greene with her husband, step-son and a brand new puppy.
