The Charles City Chamber Ambassadors recently made an appointment to drop in on Dr. Kenneth Sheckler’s practice at The Dental Center, 703 North Main St., to help commemorate his 20th anniversary in the community.

Sheckler originally hails from Bettendorf, Iowa, and practiced in Fairbault and Owatonna, Minn., for 10 years before coming down to Charles City. In all, the University of Iowa Dental School graduate has been in dental practice since 1984.

“I had the opportunity in the fall of 1996 to buy this practice from Dr. Bob Jakoubek when he became disabled,” Sheckler explained.

“It has been a real privilege to serve here and be a dental care provider in Charles City.

It’s been a fast 20 years, but a good 20 years.”

Sheckler has practiced at the same Charles City location the entire time and has enjoyed it … “as well as the support we’ve received from the community.”

He employs an office staff of four, including dental assistant Dary Bast who worked with Dr. Jakoubek prior to Dr. Sheckler. Other employees include dental hygienist Hannah Gerk and receptionist Mackensie Backer, who along with Bast are pictured here with Dr. Sheckler. Not pictured are dental hygienists Augusta Adams and Ellen Chabot-Sheckler, Ken’s wife who helps out a few times each month. The two of them met while attending the University of Iowa.

Dr. Sheckler’s office is open Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m., and he is happy to accept new patients. Please call (641) 228-2354 to make an appointment. Emergency after-hours dental service is also available by contacting Dr. Sheckler at home.
