There’s a new massage therapist in town and he specializes in therapeutic massages at Rejuvenate with Joy Massage and Spa Services.

Thomas Roney was born and raised in Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School before leaving to work at John Deere factory.

“They laid us off in 2015,” Roney said.

His aunt with fibromyalgia told him he has magic hands.

“So she recommended massage or nursing,” Roney said. “I really like to help people.”

Roney attended LeJames Academy in Mason City in May to August 2016.

“They taught me how to do massage,” Roney said. “We had to learn a lot of anatomy and kinesiology. They do a lot of practice there.”

He said he noticed that there weren’t a lot of massage therapists in the Charles City area and decided to try it here.

Folks looking for a massage can go online to schedule with Roney.

“I’m working in the mornings by appointment,” Roney said. “I like to see people get better.”

Roney believes that massages are more beneficial than relaxing.

“I like the deep tissue because it really does work things out,” Roney said. “It’s more restorative.”

A deep tissue massage gets to the muscles and gets the blood flow going, Roney said. “It helps the range of motion.”

Roney commutes to Charles City from Orchard.

Rejuvenate with Joy is currently offering his services at a discount. Until 1 p.m. April 1 he’ll offer massages for $45 for an hour-long massage, and $25 for 30-minute massages.
