Season’s final Party in the Park will begin at 5 p.m. in Charles City’s Central Park. The theme will be Christmas in July in August. This is the rescheduled party which was canceled because of weather July 13.


Saturday, Aug. 18

VFW Breakfast, 7:30-10 a.m. at VFW.  Public Welcome.

National 19th Amendment Society open house and annual meeting at the Carrie Lane Chapman Catt Girlhood Home and Interpretive Center. Meeting starts at 9 a.m.; open house is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., including refreshments, guided tours and activities for kids; 2379 Timber Ave., Charles City.

Fifteenth Annual All Veterans/All Eras Family BBQ Picnic starts at noon at the Northwood Shelter House, Worth County Fairgrounds. All area veterans and families or guests invited to enjoy dinner, music, door prizes,


Sunday, Aug. 19

Doggy dip at the Lion’s Field swimming pool. Dogs welcome to swim 4-5:30 p.m. on the final day of the season before the pool is drained and cleaned. Dogs need to be friendly, leashed and up to date on shots. Sponsored as a fundraiser by PAWS.

Charles City Public Schools begin classes.

U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, will have her regional director available from 10 to 11 a.m. at the new Hampton Public Library meeting room. Regional directors will be available to assist with problems or questions on issues like Social Security, veterans’ benefits, military affairs, passports, immigration and other federal programs.


Deadline for applications is Wednesday, Sept. 5, for a $1,000 scholarship from the Charles City Branch of the American Association of University Women. The scholarship is available to any student who is attending a college or university and has completed at least one year of study. To apply, pick up an application at the Charles City Chamber of Commerce or call 228-6732 or 228-6032.
