“Chuck” and the gang at Community Revitalization are busy preparing for another great Party in the Park season in Charles City, and have announced the dates and bands for this year’s events.

The fun kicks off on May 27 with Richie Lee & the Fabulous 50’s Band taking the band shell stage in Central Park at 5 p.m. Each Party in the Park runs from 5-9 p.m. and features free admission to listen to live entertainment. There will also be food and beverage vendors in the park, along with children’s games and activities, sponsor booth and a beer garden. Sponsors for the first night are First Security Bank & Trust, The Charles City Press, Fareway, Larry Pump CPA and Kwik Star.

The June 10 event will feature the band Toaster and is being sponsored by Central Park Dentistry, Zoetis, McDonald’s, Edward Jones and Mitas. This will be the first of at least two events during the summer series to feature inflatable rides along with the usual Party in the Park offerings. Two weeks later, on June 24, Redline will be playing on Contributor Night at which 12 smaller amount and in-kind contributors to Party in the Park will be recognized.

In July, Party in the Park events are scheduled for July 15 and 29. The first Party of the month will feature Milk & Honey and is being sponsored by Cambrex Charles City, C US Bank, Cedar River Harley-Davidson, Floyd County Farm Bureau and Subway. The second is being sponsored by Dennis Donovan, Floyd County Community Foundation, Viafield, Verizon and Dean Jewelers, with Stampede performing on stage.

The final Party of the season will be on Aug. 12 and feature Charles City’s own Endless Summer playing. Co-sponsors that night are Schueth Ace Hardware, Stewart Realty Company, L&J Industries, First Citizens National Bank and Mike Molstead Motors.

The Party in the Park series is now in its 13th year and organized by Community Revitalization. Special tokens called “Chuck Chips,” named after the Community Revitalization mascot, are used instead of currency by all food, beverage and activity vendors in the park. They can be purchased for $1 per chip at the main Chuck Chip booth in the park or from Chuck Chip Browsers throughout the park wearing red “Chuck” aprons. This year’s chips are being sponsored by L&J Industries and only those tokens will be accepted. Past years’ Chuck Chips are no longer valid.
